The Garden

Standard

I am getting excited about the approaching Spring.

Soon I will be digging in the dirt again preparing the earth to receive the seeds and plants which will produce a bounty.

I have little to do with the miracle except making a place for it to happen.

Fall Garden

This was the planting of my fall garden.  I am a partner in a small winery and we use the vegetables and even the blackberries in the restaurant.  The red tubs are old eighty gallon fermentors that found a new purpose.  All that is left now is some kale, the brussel sprouts, and a little spinach the deer have not eaten.

Things will grow just about anywhere and in anything as long as one makes a place for them and tends to it.  I think that is true about my writing.  There are times when I am so full of “stuff” that does not matter there is no room for what is important.  When that happens I become lost and there is no harvest.  This year I think that I will be more intentional.  Not really because I am good or wise (I am not).  But because I want to be alive before I die.  Be Groovy!  🙂

  1. Really! That’s totally cool. And with your sense of humor I bet you do a terrific job. Do you usually have lots of people?

Promised Lord Drollery I’d come watch “42” with him so had best go. Catch you later.

  2. Well I appreciate that. HL could probably sit and listen to you talk about your vineyard for hours on end. But you never did say what kind of “show” you were doing.

  3. Not that I know of. What is it? HL has always been fascinated with vineyards. We’ve always had a hankerin’ to just get in the car (that we’d rent from Enterprise, lol) and head to California to tour wine country. It’s one of those things we keep putting off. May regret that someday, I know. Especially after watching my sister and her husband struggle through lung cancer. Guess we need to straighten out our priorities a bit.

  4. There’s a winery up in Idaho that we love. Ste. Chapelle. We’ll buy almost anything they make. Merlot, Riesling, White Zin, Soft Rose. We especially like any of their Special Harvest stuff. We probably buy more Riesling than anything. But if we’re out to dinner or something, I usually order White Zin. Gotta be careful though. Two glasses will put me right out with my head in my plate. Don’t laugh! It happened one night when we were out with my sis and her husband. (Of course when we’re out with our besties, Mark taught me to drink whiskey sours with a beer chaser! He should NOT be one of our best friends! LOL)

  5. Well you’re no fun this morning! Are you writing? Because if you’re not, you should be, you know, or you’ll never get those deep things birthed. (This is the bossy me.)

  6. Oh! You meant help you get your crazy out? (Gawd! I’m a little slow this morning…) (Ok, I’m a little slow every morning…) Well, I’m just here for the “labor pains.” But you can squeeze my hand if it hurts too much! Pick a point in the room and focus. Then breathe through your mouth, and say “he he he.” Won’t do a thing for the pain, but it’ll help you pass the time.

  7. That’s so cool that you own a winery and have such a nice garden. We used to garden a lot since HL was raised on a farm/ranch. I’m guessing staying connected with the earth is one way you’ve managed to bleed off some of your “unwanted energy.” Great therapy, like my cross stitching. You’ll have plenty of time to go spelunking while you’re working out there. At least that’s the way it worked for me with the cross stitch. Do you listen to music while you work, or do you just like the sounds of nature?
